Umbria
is the gentle land of the
saints, in many ways a more rustic version of Tuscany, and is
one of the most captivating areas of Italy. It
is dotted with historic hill towns like Perugia, its capital and
cultural centre, Orvieto with its famous cathedral and Etruscan art, the
important Etruscan city of Todi, Spoleto with its many
artisans and
important arts festival, medieval Gubbio, and Assisi, the city of St.
Francis. Handcrafts
include Deruta pottery and ceramics. Norcia's precious
truffles, fine sheep's milk cheeses, sausages, and culinary specialties like Perugia's confectionery
are a delight, as are the classic wines of the region, Orvieto and
Sangiovese, and the "new wines" of the Colli Perugini.

Umbria offers a great way to gain an insider's glimpse of Italian life, and it's
ideally located: Florence, Siena, Rome, and both the Adriatic coast and
the Tyrrhenian
coast are all within a few hours drive. Umbria is a region with ancient origins, gently rolling hills and
fertile valleys of the River Tiber (Tevere in Italian) and its tributaries. It boasts
numerous well-preserved medieval villages as well as the rich historical
cobblestone streets of lovely – and lively – towns and villages.
Umbria has something for
everyone.

At Tenuta Collicello
("the
property on the little hill"), you'll be the
guests of an English-speaking couple, Yvette and Craig (we also speak
Italian, French, German, and Spanish), who will gladly introduce you to the
pleasures of the central Italian lifestyle. You can take your time and enjoy
some of the best things in life: clean, sweet-scented air, a peaceful
silence, sun, mild rolling hills, and a wonderful panorama.
|
|
Tenuta Collicello is perfectly
situated between Rome and Florence to allow it to be used as home base
for those who want to explore Tuscany, Lazio, as well as our own
wonderful cities and Etruscan towns, plus Lake Trasimeno, where Hannibal
and his elephants were defeated by Julius Caesar. For a more
complete list see the Activities
page. After a fun day
of sightseeing, there is no more relaxing place to come back to than
your Tenuta Collicello!

We
completely rebuilt the fine old
country house of Tenuta Collicello, but it still preserves many of the details of the
original 18th century building, such as its heavy stone walls and
wood-beamed terracotta tile ceilings. Its antique rustic furnishings also contribute to giving the rooms a warm
and relaxing atmosphere. Tenuta Collicello is set in the backdrop of a landscape
mosaic of
ploughed fields, sunflowers, vineyards, and the entire Montecelli Valley
(the Contado di Porta
Eburnea is one of the most desireable areas in Umbria),
with Perugia and many ancient villages in the distance.

Our guests have at their
disposal comfortable rooms and pleasant independent suites, all with
private bathrooms central heating, and local and satellite

The large suites have an all-electric kitchenette Breakfast is
available in the salon, but you can take it
outdoors on the patio if you like.
Parking is enclosed on site for your security. You will find more
information about the rooms in the on-line
reservation area.
